Appeals Court Quashes HealthSouth Executive's Appeal

Law360, New York (September 18, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A federal appeals court has rejected an appeal brought by a former chief financial officer at HealthSouth Corp. who argued the five-year sentence he received for his role in the accounting fraud that nearly bankrupted the company was too harsh.

William T. Owens’ 60-month sentence was the longest jail term meted out to any of the players in the HealthSouth accounting scandal who entered guilty pleas.

Owens pled guilty to charges of securities fraud, wire fraud and certifying a false financial statement in December 2005....
