Samsung, Others Keep PTAB Win On LCD Patent At Fed. Circ.

By Matthew Bultman (April 4, 2018, 6:33 PM EDT) -- In a win for a Samsung unit and two other electronics makers, the Federal Circuit on Wednesday upheld a U.S. Patent Trial and Appeal Board ruling invalidating claims in a patent related to LCD screen parts.

The appeals court summarily affirmed a December 2016 decision from the PTAB finding a handful of claims in Gold Charm Ltd.'s patent were invalid because they were either anticipated or made obvious by earlier inventions.

Samsung Display Co. Ltd., Toshiba Corp. and Funai Electric Co. Ltd. challenged the patent in the PTAB's inter partes review process after Gold Charm filed infringement lawsuits.
