Insurers Seek Rules On Gap Between Auto, Human Control

Law360, London (April 16, 2018, 3:25 PM BST) -- New standards are needed to allow insurers to decide who is liable for an accident during the “handover” period in vehicles that can switch between autonomous and human driving, a global insurer and a U.K. law firm said on Monday.

AXA Insurance UK PLC and Burges Salmon warned in a report that cars being developed that allow the driver to switch control of the vehicle to an autonomous driving system could create a “gray area” in liability.
