IRS Online Filing System Breaks Down On Tax Day

Law360 (April 17, 2018, 2:42 PM EDT) -- The Internal Revenue Service's online filing system experienced technical difficulties on Tuesday as millions of Americans tried to submit their tax returns before the government's midnight deadline.

An IRS spokesperson confirmed to Law360 that "a number of systems are down and we are working to resolve the issue."

In a statement, the agency said that "taxpayers should continue filing their tax returns as they normally would."

The agency did not answer further questions about the number of taxpayers affected or say when the problems might be resolved.
