UK Privacy Watchdog Seeks Greater Powers As GDPR Looms

Law360, London (April 19, 2018, 12:42 PM BST) -- The U.K.'s privacy regulator has warned that the recent controversy over the use of Facebook data shows that tough European rules taking effect in May will not give investigators sufficient powers to check how personal data is stored and shared.

New technology has already overtaken investigative powers soon to be introduced under the General Data Protection Regulation, which has a remit including tightening cybersecurity for financial services, Information Commissioner Elizabeth Denham said on Wednesday.

Denham spoke as the Information Commissioner's Office examines some 30 organizations, including Facebook Inc....
