Cancer Group Calls For SEC To Probe Tobacco Cos.

Law360, New York (September 19, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A nonprofit organization has asked the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to investigate whether tobacco companies found guilty of misleading the public about the health risks of cigarettes were also blowing smoke in investors’ eyes.

Lung Cancer Alliance (LCA) sent a letter to SEC commissioners Tuesday, asking them to clear the air with a full inquiry into the tobacco companies for possibly violating securities laws by neglecting to disclose fraudulent marketing tactics and deceiving investors.
