Hecla Mining Co. Hit With Fine Over CWA Violations

Law360, New York (May 29, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has slapped Hecla Mining Co. with $177,500 in civil penalties over wastewater discharges from its Lucky Friday Mine and Mill near Mullan, Idaho, in violation of the Clean Water Act.

On Thursday, the EPA announced that Hecla had paid the fine, which the gold and silver mining company was hit with because of alleged violations of its National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System wastewater permit at the Idaho mine.
