In-House Legal Budgets To Expand As Outside Spending Falls

By Michele Gorman (May 1, 2018, 5:26 PM EDT) -- After years of cuts, overall legal spending is on the rise, with nearly half of the law department decision makers who participated in a recent study expecting their total in-house budget to increase this year and most anticipating their outside investments to drop, according to data released on Tuesday.

With the publication of their second annual survey of effective spending management, e-discovery software provider Exterro Inc. and legal consulting firm Blickstein Group analyzed how law departments are controlling costs. Between March and April, 59 in-house operations executives, general counsel and attorneys from a variety of industries across the country evaluated 22 different spending management techniques....
