Trump Vows Cheaper Drugs 'Very Soon,' But That's Unlikely

By Jeff Overley (May 11, 2018, 7:59 PM EDT) -- President Donald Trump on Friday uncorked numerous proposals to ease drug prices and promised that consumers will benefit "very soon," but the proposals are so vague and preliminary that major short-term relief is unlikely, experts say.

The president, who has long decried high drug prices but so far has taken limited action, outlined his proposals in a blueprint dubbed "American Patients First." The blueprint calls for improving negotiations in Medicare Part D and strengthening competition by boosting lower-cost generics and biosimilars, among many steps.
