Mayer Brown Puts Associates To Work In-House

Law360, New York (June 2, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- More than a dozen associates at Mayer Brown LLP have agreed to be placed in a corporate legal department or a public service organization, even with a dramatic pay cut, rather than find themselves unemployed in a tough job market.

The associates who accepted the deal, offered to a select few, are being paid $60,000 by the firm, plus medical benefits, to work for a year with corporate clients or public interest associations. In addition, the associates have no assurance of employment past that year....
