UK Orders Capita To Sell Off IBS Software Unit

Law360, New York (June 4, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The U.K.’s competition regulator has ordered business outsourcing company Capita Group PLC to sell part of recently acquired software company IBS Opensystems PLC, citing harm to competition in the revenues and benefits software sector.

The U.K. Competition Commission issued a final report Wednesday, ruling that the completed acquisition of IBS would substantially lessen competition in the R&B software market.

Allowing Capita to keep the business would hurt market competitors and consumers, said Christopher Clarke, chairman of the commission’s inquiry group investigating the merger.
