Trouble Looms For Landmark Cartel Case

Law360, New York (September 20, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Australia’s antitrust regulator is getting plenty of corporate backbiting as it struggles to hold together its landmark cartel case against packaging company Visy Industries Ltd. over a price-fixing scheme for cardboard boxes.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission’s case against Visy was threatened after a former executive from rival Amcor Ltd. threw the ACCC’s argument into question with shocking testimony.

According to the witness, whistleblower Jim Hodgson, Amcor is the party responsible for dreaming up the corrugated box cartel and putting it in motion in 2000....
