Doctors Group Settles FTC Price-Fixing Claims

Law360, New York (June 4, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The Federal Trade Commission settled its price-fixing allegations against Alta Bates Medical Group Inc. on Thursday by barring the 600-doctor association of independent practices from collectively negotiating the rates its doctors charge insurers for procedures done on a fee-for-service basis.

The watchdog had accused the San Francisco Bay Area group of violating federal antitrust law by fixing the prices its doctors charge for various medical services.
