Hamburg Exchange Would Securitize, Trade Patent Rights

Law360, New York (March 2, 2004, 12:00 AM EST) -- The Hamburg Stock Exchange is considering an innovative plan to trade patent rights, according to a published report.

The plan would allow patent rights to trade like other securities such as stocks, BAG Boersen Chairman Thomas Ledermann told the German edition of the Financial Times.

The new market could have a turnover of billions of euros, according to estimates.

Germany currently has patents worth 750 billion to 940 billion euros that could be securitized, according to market researcher IP Bewertungs AG, a unit of K1F. An...
