Circuit Judge Brett Kavanaugh was tapped Monday night by President Donald Trump to succeed Justice Anthony Kennedy on the U.S. Supreme Court, putting the former Kirkland & Ellis LLP appellate attorney on track for what is expected to be a rough confirmation process.
Trump praised Judge Kavanaugh during an evening announcement at the White House as having "impeccable credentials, unsurpassed qualifications and a proven commitment to equal justice under the law."
