Cravath Offers Deferral Deals To Incoming Lawyers

Law360 (June 12, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Facing a larger-than-expected class of new lawyers, Cravath Swaine & Moore LLP has dangled offers of $80,000 to incoming associates if they agree to postpone their start dates at the firm from this fall to the fall of 2010.

The New York-based firm is also planning to require current summer associates who receive job offers to take a $65,000 deferral deal and hold off on starting until the fall of 2011. Those lawyers who take deferral offers will also receive up to $1,000 each month to...
