Court Denies Press Access In Nightclub Fire Case

Law360 (June 15, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A Rhode Island newspaper has lost its bid to access hundreds of completed jury questionnaires in a criminal case brought in the wake of a 2003 nightclub blaze that killed 100 people, with the state Supreme Court ruling that the request is moot.

On Friday, the Rhode Island Supreme Court upheld the earlier denial of The Providence Journal Co.'s request for press access to 421 jury questionnaires filed in connection with the criminal case against Michael Derderian.
