FDA Plans Studies Of On-The-Market Medications

Law360, New York (September 25, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The Food & Drug Administration has ordered a first round of studies to address the safety of medicines already on the market. Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, osteoporosis and contraceptive medications will be the first to face scrutiny.

Under pressure since the 2004 withdrawal of Merck & Co.’s painkiller Vioxx, the FDA has asked health insurers, such as Kaiser Permanente, to collaborate on the studies.
