Water Bill Clears Senate Panel, But Fight Lies Ahead

Law360, New York (June 18, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A U.S. Senate panel on Thursday passed an amended version of a bill aimed at protecting waterways, but Republicans vowed to continue fighting it, saying it amounts to a federal power grab.

The legislation, known as the Clean Water Restoration Act, cleared the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee by a 12-7 vote entirely along party lines.
