Genetic Discrimination Bill Introduced In Congress

Law360, New York (September 25, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Representative Ron Paul (R-Tex) has introduced a bill that aims to prohibit discrimination by health plans and employers based on genetic information.

The bill, Taxpayer Protection from Genetic Discrimination Act of 2006, was sent to the Committees on Government Reform, on Education and the Workforce, Energy and Commerce, and Ways and Means.

Paul’s proposed bill would make it illegal for a group health plan to adjust a premium based on the genetic information of an individual or a relative of the individual.
