EPA Lets NC Phosphate Mine Expansion Proceed

Law360, New York (June 19, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has reversed an earlier decision to investigate the environmental impact of the expansion of a Potash Corp. of Saskatchewan phosphate mine in eastern North Carolina, deciding that revisions in the expansion plan have mitigated negative environmental effects.

In a Wednesday letter, acting Assistant Administrator Michael H. Shapiro wrote that the EPA would no longer seek further review of a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers permit that would allow PCS to expand its mining activities.
