Insurance Industry Could See Wave Of Mergers: Study

Law360, New York (June 22, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Provided insurance companies are able to resolve their financial problems, the sharp decline in mergers and acquisitions activity in the insurance industry over the past year could reverse itself later this year, according to a report by Deloitte LLP.

The report states that an increase in insurance company acquisitions could be prompted by large financial institutions and insurers seeking ways to divest their noncore insurance businesses in order to cover capital shortfalls.
