Hummer Denies Reports Of China Moving To Nix Sale

Law360, New York (June 26, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- General Motors Corp. and the Chinese firm that has agreed to acquire the bankrupt automaker's Hummer unit are both denying earlier news reports that China will move to block the deal over pollution concerns.

Several news organizations, including the BBC, cited a report Friday on China National Radio saying Chinese authorities had plans to nix Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery Co.'s bid for Hummer for environmental reasons, because the acquisition goes against the country's attempts to cut down on pollution from Chinese manufacturers.
