NWF Hits FEMA Over Flood Insurance Program

Law360, New York (June 26, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The National Wildlife Federation and other environmental groups have accused the Federal Emergency Management Agency of failing to consider whether its national flood insurance program would harm federally protected populations of salmon and steelhead in Oregon by encouraging development in floodplains.

The complaint, filed Thursday in the U.S. District Court for the District of Oregon, argues that the agency has not sought consultations from other federal agencies as to whether the federally subsidized insurance program damages the designated critical habitat of the fish species.
