Kroes Pushes For Energy Sector Unbundling

Law360, New York (September 28, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- As the European Commission continues its shake-up of the gas and electricity markets in Europe, the agency’s top regulator is calling for the further unbundling of the energy industry, saying that the ownership of power generation should be separated from distribution.

Competition Commissioner Neelie Kroes said in a speech given at a London conference on Thursday that further unbundling of network and supply activities is needed to effectively remove conflicts of interest and to create the right investment incentives, Dow Jones reported.
