File-Sharing Company Liable For Copyrights

Law360, New York (September 28, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A federal judge has ruled that StreamCast Networks Inc. is liable for inducing copyright infringement through its online file-sharing software, granting a win to an army of plaintiffs, including some of the country’s biggest movie studios and record companies.

U.S. District Judge Stephen W. Wilson issued a 60-page order Wednesday granting summary judgment to the plaintiffs and denying StreamCast’s request for a continuance. The order could mark the end of a legal battle that’s raged since 2001 and made its way to the U.S. Supreme Court...
