U.S. District Judge Slomsky In Pa. Takes Senior Status

By Matthew Santoni (October 10, 2018, 8:51 PM EDT) -- U.S. District Judge Joel H. Slomsky, one of the Philadelphia federal court's judges, has retired to senior status, leaving a vacancy on the bench, the court announced Tuesday.

Judge Slomsky, who has served on the Eastern District of Pennsylvania court since 2008, said he would take senior status as of Oct. 9.

Senior status allows Judge Slomsky to take on fewer cases and lets President Trump appoint a new judge to take his place, although the court said Judge Slomsky would remain active on the bench.

Judge Slomsky did not respond to a request for comment Wednesday.
