Schwarzenegger Signs New E-Discovery Law

Law360, New York (June 30, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has signed a new law on electronic discovery that says that only reasonably accessible sources of electronic data are discoverable in most cases and that litigants can't be sanctioned for losing data through the ordinary operation of an electronic system.

Schwarzenegger signed Assembly Bill 5, known as the Electronic Discovery Act, on Monday night, according to a spokesman for Reed Smith LLP who is familiar with the legislation.
