G-8 Agrees To Cut Emissions By 80 Percent

Law360, New York (July 9, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The Group of Eight leading nations has struck a long-term deal to cut carbon emissions by 80 percent by 2050 and to work with all nations to cut global emissions in half.

The countries also agreed to limit global warming to no more than 2 degrees Celsius, which is what the mainstream of the scientific community had called for, President Barack Obama said Thursday at the conclusion of a meeting of the Major Economies Forum.
