Sediment From Valero Refinery Not Hazardous: EPA

Law360, New York (July 10, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has proposed granting a petition by Valero Refining Co. to remove sediment generated at its refinery in Memphis from a list of hazardous waste.

The EPA said in Thursday's edition of the Federal Register that it had concluded the sediment was not harmful, but would accept public comments on the decision until Aug. 10 before finalizing the ruling.

“EPA believes that Valero has successfully demonstrated that the storm water basin sediment is nonhazardous,” the agency said.
