Judge Refuses To Overturn Scrushy Conviction

Law360 (October 2, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A federal judge refused Monday to overturn the government corruption convictions of ex-HealthSouth chief executive Richard Scrushy and disgraced ex-governor of Alabama Don Siegelman.

In rejecting the petition, U.S. District Judge Mark Fuller ruled there was "substantial evidence" to support the convictions.

"The court finds that during the course of this very lengthy trial, the government presented substantial evidence upon which a reasonable trier of fact could conclude that Siegelman and Scrushy engaged in the conduct for which they were convicted," the judge said in an...
