Fla. Gov. Names Miami Appellate Judge To High Court

Law360, Miami (January 9, 2019, 5:41 PM EST) -- Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said Wednesday he is appointing Third District Court of Appeal Judge Barbara Lagoa to the Florida Supreme Court, making the onetime prosecutor and litigator with Greenberg Traurig LLP and Morgan Lewis & Bockius LLP the first Cuban-American woman to serve on the high court.

In an announcement at Miami's Freedom Tower, where most Cuban exiles in the 1960s were processed on arrival, the governor nominated Judge Lagoa to fill one of the three empty seats on the Florida Supreme Court.
