Sanders Seeks Antitrust Probe Of Dean Foods

Law360, New York (July 17, 2009, 2:46 PM EDT) -- Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., has asked the U.S. Department of Justice's top antitrust official to look into Dean Foods, which the lawmaker says has maintained a broad share of the New England milk market and high profits despite losses for dairy farmers.

The senator told Assistant Attorney General Christine A. Varney of his concerns about the dairy processing giant's 70 percent share of the milk market in New England at a July 9 meeting with the antitrust enforcer, his spokesman Michael Briggs said Friday.
