Watchdog Probes Capital Rules' Impact On Green Investments

Law360, London (January 17, 2019, 12:39 PM GMT) -- Europe’s top insurance watchdog said on Thursday that it will assess whether the bloc’s formidable capital rulebook is pushing insurers toward environmentally friendly investments, as part of the EU’s plan for boosting sustainable finance.

The European Insurance and Occupations Authority has called on insurers and reinsurers based in the European Union to disclose whether Solvency II, Europe’s capital regime, is encouraging them to invest in products in which the underlying business is seen as environmentally conscious or contributes to a social objective.
