House OKs Plan To Keep GM, Chrysler Dealers Open

Law360, New York (July 17, 2009, 12:54 PM EDT) -- The U.S. House of Representatives has approved a plan that would compel General Motors Corp. and Chrysler Group LLC to keep alive dealerships destined for the chopping block, despite the White House's objections that such a measure could put the auto giants' reorganization plans in peril.

Representatives narrowly passed the provision, sponsored by Rep. Steven LaTourette, R-Ohio, in a 219-208 vote Thursday, part of the 2010 Financial Services and General Government Appropriations Act.
