China Accepts First Electronic Patent Filing

Law360, New York (March 15, 2004, 12:00 AM EST) -- China’s first electronically filed patent was accepted by the government on Friday, exactly 20 years after the country passed its patent law.

An idea for a "driving circuit for semiconductor laser unit" became the first electronically filed patent application when the State Intellectual Property Office accepted it.

The "China Patent Electronic Application System" (CPEAS) is a key project defined in the tenth five-year plan in the “informationization construction” of SIPO, the agency said.

The electronic platform is intended to simplify procedures for patent applications.
