Waters Pays $18M To Settle Patent Infringement Suit

Law360, New York (March 15, 2004, 12:00 AM EST) -- Applera Corp.’s Applied Biosystems Group and MDS Inc. agreed to settle their patent infringement lawsuit against Waters Technologies Corp. in return for a one-time payment of $18.1 million, Waters Technologies said Monday.

Applied Biosystems and MDS had sued Waters Technologies in the U.S, the U.K., Canada and Japan, alleging that its mass spectrometry products infringe a patent held by MDS.

The plaintiffs had sought an injunction and an unspecified award of damages.
