Obama To Tap Sommers For 2nd CFTC Term

Law360, New York (July 21, 2009, 1:33 PM EDT) -- President Barack Obama will nominate Jill E. Sommers to serve a second term as a commissioner at the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission, the White House has announced.

Obama's plans to nominate Sommers to a five-year term were revealed in a statement released Monday. Her appointment is subject to U.S. Senate approval.

Sommers, the sole Republican commissioner of the five-member agency that regulates commodity futures and option markets in the U.S., was sworn in as commissioner in August 2007 to a term that expired April 13....
