EU Backs Extension Of Car Sales Antitrust Exemption

Law360, New York (July 22, 2009, 1:17 PM EDT) -- The European Commission plans to extend its block antitrust exemption for automobile sales for another three years, a move that would allow automakers to continue to run exclusive dealership networks, the regulator said Wednesday.

The commission said it saw no competition risks in extending the exemption for new vehicle sales past its expiration at the end of May 2010, noting instead that real prices for cars have continued to fall as more manufacturers enter the European Union market.
