Brazil Hits InBev With Record $185M Antitrust Fine

Law360, New York (July 22, 2009, 5:46 PM EDT) -- Brazil's antitrust enforcer has hit a local unit of international brewing giant Anheuser-Busch InBev NV with a record fine of 352.7 million Brazilian reais ($185 million) for its reseller loyalty program.

Cade — Brazil's Administrative Council for Economic Defense — set the fine at 2 percent of the turnover Companhia de Bebidas das Americas, or AmBev, recorded in 2003, Cade spokeswoman Lali Mariah Ferraz de Fonseca said Wednesday.
