Assessing Nanotechnology Risk — No Small Matter

Law360, New York (July 24, 2009, 11:11 AM EDT) -- Simply put, nanotechnology is the science and business of manufacturing on a very small scale. Nanotechnology encompasses a conglomeration of scientific disciplines including chemical, physical, biological, engineering and electronic processes, applications and concepts.

The common characteristic for these disciplines in the realm of nanotechnology is size. By way of illustration, in general, the building materials used in nanotechnology are so small that a million of them could fit onto the dot of the letter “i.”
