No New Cooper Tire Trial After $1.5M Crash Verdict

Law360, New York (July 24, 2009, 3:50 PM EDT) -- A Florida appeals court has affirmed a lower court's decision not to grant Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. a new trial in a suit where the jury awarded $1.5 million to the family of a man killed in a car crash when a tread belt on one of the tires separated.

The District Court of Appeal of the State of Florida, Fourth District, ruled Wednesday that the jury's decision to make a compromise among themselves when reaching the verdict did not merit a new trial....
