Justices Deny Tobacco Cos.' Bid To Snuff Out Engle Cases
Law360 (February 25, 2019, 4:31 PM EST) -- The Supreme Court declined to review eight suits against Philip Morris USA Inc., Liggett Group LLC and R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. on Monday in which Florida courts found them liable for negligence, product liability and other claims, opening the companies up to similar allegations in thousands of other suits.
Per custom, the Supreme Court did not provide reasons for its denial. Justice Brett Kavanaugh did not participate in the decisions, according to the announcement.
