Ex-Barclays Exec Unaware Of Qatari Advisory Deals, Jury Told

Law360, London (February 26, 2019, 10:40 PM GMT) -- A former executive at Barclays PLC was unaware that the bank struck two advisory service agreements with Qatar that are at the center of the criminal trial of four former senior Barclays bankers, according to evidence read to a jury at Southwark Crown Court on Tuesday.

Gay Huey Evans, who was head of sovereign wealth funds at the time of the bank’s emergency fundraising in 2008 and tasked with developing ties with state-backed investment funds, knew nothing of so-called advisory service agreements the bank struck with a Qatari wealth fund, according to evidence read by Serious Fraud Office prosecutors.
