Senate Panel OKs Sotomayor For Supreme Court

Law360, New York (July 28, 2009, 4:33 PM EDT) -- Judge Sonia Sotomayor moved one step closer to the U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday after the Senate Judiciary Committee backed her nomination in a 13-6 vote.

All 12 Democrats on the committee voted in support of Judge Sotomayor and one Republican, Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, bucked his party and joined the Democratic majority in supporting the nominee.

Sen. Pat Leahy, D-Vt., who chairs the committee, said that he voted for Judge Sotomayor with “enthusiasm and hope.”
