Sierra Club Seeks To Block $1.9B Coal Project

Law360, New York (July 29, 2009, 6:02 PM EDT) -- The Sierra Club has intervened in proceedings to consider approval of a $1.9 billion high-voltage multistate transmission line project that would bring coal-fired power to new markets in the Northeast, saying the construction will allow coal plants to ramp up dangerous emissions.

The environmental advocacy group, which is being represented by Earthjustice, filed a notice of participation Monday with the Virginia State Corporation Commission, the regulatory body that is overseeing proceedings regarding the 765-kilovolt project.
