UK's May Will Ask EU For Brexit Delay After Key Vote Blocked

Law360, London (March 19, 2019, 6:21 PM GMT) -- British Prime Minister Theresa May will ask the European Union to delay the U.K.'s scheduled March 29 departure from the EU after a planned third vote on her negotiated Brexit deal was blocked by the parliamentary speaker, a government spokesman said Tuesday.

The decision came a day after the speaker of the House of Commons declined to schedule the government's latest attempt to get its negotiated withdrawal agreement through Parliament, citing a parliamentary convention dating to 1604 that bars repeated votes on the same legislation unless significant changes have been introduced.
