These opponents of current U.S. tax law now invoke the U.S. tax obligations of Meghan Markle to bolster their case. Having married into the British royal family and becoming the Duchess of Sussex, Markle remains subject to U.S. taxation as a U.S. citizen living abroad. Most recently, Laura Saunders of the Wall Street Journal focused on Markle's U.S. tax liability, claiming that many U.S. citizens residing abroad "have trouble living ordinary financial lives ... because of stringent U.S. rules."[1]...
