Abbott Yanks Potentially Lethal Coronary Catheters

Law360, New York (July 30, 2009, 5:33 PM EDT) -- Abbott Laboratories has recalled three lots of its Powersail Coronary Dilatation Catheters from U.S. distribution and one lot from international circulation, or about 550 units total, citing a defect that could kill patients by causing air embolism and heart attacks.

On Wednesday, Abbott announced the voluntary recall after receiving four complaints about the product, one from each lot. One of the complaints involved a patient who showed signs of a heart attack following a procedure using the Powersail.
