Obama Taps Former Lawmaker To Join CPSC

Law360, New York (July 31, 2009, 5:05 PM EDT) -- President Barack Obama said Thursday he intended to nominate former Republican Congresswoman Anne Meagher Northup to join the ranks of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission as a commissioner, making good on his intention to boost the number of seats on the largely demoralized federal agency from three to five.

Northup, whose nomination still needs to be confirmed by the U.S. Senate, served the Third Congressional District of Kentucky in the House of Representatives between 1997 and 2006, according to the White House.
